Although I'm not familiar with this exact piece I can give you my impressions. If I was going for some kind of flat top to go over a gas burner stove (would not even think to attempt this with a coil burner) I would think that seasoned cast iron would be far preferable.
It's a huge, 1/5 inch steel griddle that has drain holes in the front for grease and food. It lays over atop the entire stovetop to heat the entire surface.
