An important thing to consider when looking at a CRT is whether it is an SD TV (scans at 15kHz, or 240p/480i) or HD TV (scans at 1080i). If you are looking to play mainly retro consoles 5th gen and earlier which only output 240p/480i, an HD CRT is not a good choice.

Option 1. SFP HD Trinitron (XBR960, XBR910, XS955), these are sharper than the non SFP trinitrons. Option 2. Non SFP HD Trinitron, a little bit worse than the SFP Trinitrons. Option 3. Any other consumer HD CRT. There are great non Sony HD CRTs, like the JVC I’Art Pro, certain Toshiba and Panasonic models. Option 4. A decent Plasma.
I've seen a couple of videos about the benefits of modern PC gaming with a CRT, but those videos talk about some high grade, professional monitors. High refresh rates, HD resolution, vibrant colors. But those cost in the thousands of dollars and I don't know if that's something I want to invest in.
