Unfortunate, but true. At least Amazon make's returning things easy with no questions asked. Best advice I can offer is buy a laptop where Amazon is listed as the one shipping and sending it to you from their warehouse instead of a third party seller.
If anyone saw my previous post, I am dealing with a convoluted issue where a third-party seller sold a new laptop to me, fulfilled by Amazon, that was actually already open and had with a warranty that was expired since October.
