magmafanatic. • 3 yr. ago. Yellow, Crystal, Emerald are the obvious best picks for their generations. They've got the most stuff. Platinum is the definitive Sinnoh-region experience, but HGSS are some excellent remakes and a lot of people hold them in very high regard, tough pick there.
Black was great and probably tops my list for DS/3DS titles followed very closely by heart gold. Gameplay, story, pokemon and battling are all top notch. Y and Ultra moon are both good games, and are worth the play through. I did have small issues with both games though.
If you have great game knowledge, I can suggest you the Kaizo Romhacks (Blue, Crystal and Emerald) by SHF, but if not, you can play Drayano's romhacks (not Sacred Gold Storm Silver because he's reworking them) or Radical Red (a mix between smogon competitive battles and base Fire Red with Gen8 mechanics).
