The Assessment Office maintains ownership and assessments records for parcels within Berks County and ensures that all new construction is measured, described and assessed. The Assessment Office works with property owners, municipalities, tax collectors and school districts concerning assessments.
Pennsylvania realty transfer tax is imposed at a rate of 1 percent on the value of real estate (including contracted-for improvements to property) transferred by deed, instrument, long-term lease or other writing. Both grantor and grantee are held jointly and severally liable for payment of the tax.
Taxes paid during the months of March and April are entitled to a discount. This discount period ends April 30. A penalty is applied to any taxes paid after June 30. Any Real Estate taxes that remain unpaid as of December 31 are turned over to the Berks County Tax Claim Bureau for collection.
Berks County is pleased to announce that Spring Township Tax Payers may now pay their annual, interim, and or outstanding tax bills online via debit or credit cards. The online option is for County\Municipal taxes only.
