A self-taught instrumentalist, Rector began songwriting and learning guitar at age 16, and began performing locally in high school. While attending college at the University of Arkansas he would tour within an 8 hour driving radius on the weekends.
In high school, Ben Rector was a part of a four-piece band during his attendance at the Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rector's home town. The band, Euromart, [a] consisted of Rector on guitar and vocals, drummer Chris Wylie, bassist Matt Wantland, and guitarist Austin Helm.
After high school, Rector attended the University of Arkansas where he studied marketing. During his freshman year he recorded a self-titled EP that featured the song “Conversation”, which won the Grand Prize in the pop category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in 2006.

Rector BSBA’10 has always had an ear for music. He took piano lessons as a child, learned guitar and began songwriting in high school before studying music at the University of Arkansas. Originally from Tulsa, Rector decided to come to the University of Arkansas.
