30 gru 2004 · The French army of 1940 used Belgian motorcycles and side-cars from Gillet-Herstal and FN-Herstal. In Spring 1940 some Brossel TAL (heavy trucks to tow heavy artillery, 20-30t trailers and to tow damaged vehicles) were tested in Vincennes.
4 lis 2018 · Excellent military history museum with a plethora of items. Docents are available and full of information. This military museum seems to lean more towards the personal effects/side of the soldier, which I quite enjoyed. Handicap accessible, and you'll need about an hour. Enjoy!
From medieval armours to the F-16 jet: the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History presents 12 centuries of military history through uniforms, weapons and heavy machinery. On top of that, it accomodates an Air and Space Hall with 130 airplanes and a brand new Antarctica room.
The main gallery is dedicated to Belgian military history from 1830 to the eve of World War I, along with paintings and busts of important military figures of the time. The technical gallery is where the evolution of firearms and manufacturing processes is shown.
The Belgian Army had approximately 200 combat vehicles at the time of the German invasion in May 1940. The vehicles were distributed among infantry and cavalry divisions for use as support weapons. The Belgian Army viewed their combat vehicles as defensive weapons.
