Battle for Moscow is a short and simple board wargame published by Game Designers' Workshop (GDW) in 1986 that simulates Operation Typhoon, the German attempt to quickly capture Moscow during the opening days of their surprise invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941 during World War II.
Battle for Moscow is an Operational level relatively simple World War II Russian Front free board-wargame. The game simulates the German push toward Moscow in late 1941. The objective of the German faction is to capture and hold Moscow using blitzkrieg, while the Soviet faction tries to prevent that via strategic retreats.
In September of 1941, the German High Command decided to launch a final, decisive offensive to crown their invasion of Russia, capture Moscow, and break the Red Army once and for all. Codenamed Operation Typhoon, German tanks and infantry pressed relentlessly forward until they could see the very spires of the Kremlin.

Battle for Moscow is a two-player game: One player assumes the role of the Axis (Germany) and the other player assumes the role of Russia (the Soviet Union). Each player moves his units and executes attacks on enemy units in turn, attempting to fulfill the game's Victory Conditions.
