A lighter weight contour when the barrel gets button rifled (Bartlein Barrels only does single point cut rifling) the stress being put into the blank is much greater. As you turn the contour smaller and smaller in size this can have a negative effect on the bore sizes changing and opening up.
6 sty 2021 · Rebarreling my Remington 700 BDL SA 270WSM. Barrel of choice is 24" 8:1 Bartlein. I can't decide between a 3 or 3b contour. This is a carry hunting rig so I'm thinking weight savings tell me to go with a 3. I know I could flute the 3b but that's just more cost.
11 paź 2019 · The steel barrel in the photo is a fluted K&P in #3 Douglas that weighs less than 2.5# @23". The other rifle is a Bartlein CF in 7 SAUM (sold it). If you think you might shorten the barrel, have the flute cuts end approx 5" before the muzzle.

Punch in your numbers, and the Barrel Weight Calculator then automatically generates the weight for 16 different “standard” contours.
26 maj 2020 · 24″ Bartlein CFW #13 contour finished barrel in 7mm bore size, 3.0lb total weight. Near identical barrel contour, #11 Medium Palma with shortened shank, in steel. This barrel is 23″ finished, so the weight savings with the CFW is in reality about 1lb 2oz. Straightness and uniformity of the barrel was perfect.
