In the first chapter of Revelation we read that Jesus appears to the apostle John, who was banished by Rome to the Island of Patmos because of his faith. Jesus tells John to write about what he saw, about the present, and about what will take place in the future.
The book begins with the revelation of Jesus Christ, given to Him by God to show His servants what must soon take place. This revelation is delivered by an angel to John, who testifies everything he saw - the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

a. The Revelation of Jesus Christ: The ancient Greek word translated Revelation is apokalupsis (apocalypse). The word simply means “a revealing, an unveiling.” The Book of Revelation is the Revelation of Jesus Christ in the sense that it belongs to Him, He is the one doing the revealing.
