20 cze 2024 · At its meeting ending on 2 August 2023, the MPC voted by a majority of 6–3 to increase Bank Rate by 0.25 percentage points, to 5.25%. Two members preferred to increase Bank Rate by 0.5 percentage points, to 5.5%, and one member preferred to maintain Bank Rate at 5%.

The Bank of England is expected to hold its main interest rate steady at 5.0% in its September 2024 meeting, following a 25 basis-point cut in August, the first in over four years. Inflation held at 2.2% in both July and August, with projections suggesting it won’t dip below the 2% target until at least 2026.

The ‘effective’ interest rate – the actual interest paid – on newly drawn mortgages saw a 3 basis point increase to 4.66% in July, while the rate on the outstanding stock of mortgages rose by 5 basis points to 2.97%. Consumer credit (M&C Tables B and C):
