TerribleHalf. • 5 yr. ago. You're downloading code (which all executable files, pictures, movies, music essentially are) from strangers on the Internet. It's pretty safe to assume not all of them have your best intentions in mind; in fact, some of them are probably malicious.
Generally you need to run/open the infected file to get a virus. Theres a few exceptions to that, but it's way less likely. Trust your gut though especially if it's some sketchy site sending you the mega link

Awful service. I tried to download a file. Mega said Firefox couldn't download it. I tried the app. It downloaded 1/3 of the file and stopped. Apparently it desynced itself. I saved it to my account, then was told I was over my allotted data and couldn't download it. I barely even use Mega form my account.

I moved to Mega from another famous cloud store that was getting very irritating with poor file and folder handling. Mega allows much better editing and arrangement of files within folders. Also allows sharing links with non-members to view photos and download as required.
