8 wrz 2023 · The day-old calf appears to be healthy, and in typical muskox fashion is beginning to wander around the zoo’s grassy Arctic Tundra habitat, sticking closely to mom. The zoo’s veterinary team did a health exam of mother and calf this morning.

We are SO, SO ox-static to announce the arrival of Trebek, the young male musk ox born at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington last spring! In looking out for the best interest of this (big) little guy, his caretakers at Point Defiance knew that it would mean having other musk ox playmates his age.

The muskox (Ovibos moschatus) [ a ][ b ] is a hoofed mammal of the family Bovidae. [ 8 ] . Native to the Arctic, it is noted for its thick coat and for the strong odor emitted by males during the seasonal rut, from which its name derives. This musky odor has the effect of attracting females during mating season.
