On October 24, 1947, two days before Maharaja Hari Singh finally acceded to India, these rebels established a Provisional Azad (Free) Government in the areas they had successfully liberated or freed. Supposedly, this government was to supersede J&K’s official, and overstretched, government, then govern all of J&K.
