Cursed Mermaid Statues can be found on the shores of small and large Islands with the exceptions of Forts, Outposts and Seaposts. The Statues can also be found on the two Uncharted Islands. These statues can appear either in shallow or deep waters that are surrounding Islands, but never with the base of the statue on dry land.
