ATHANASIAN CREED. Early in the fourth century, a north African pastor named Arius began teaching that Jesus Christ was not truly God. The Church responded decisively in AD 325 with a statement of faith (The Nicene Creed), which confessed that Jesus is, in fact, true God.
The Athanasian Creed proclaims that its teachings concerning the Holy Trinity and our Lord’s incarnation are the catholic faith. In other words, this is what the true church of all times and all places has confessed.

The Athanasian Creed. (On the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity) Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catholic [i. e., universal, Christian] faith. Which faith except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.
1 mar 2019 · The Athanasian Creed was written to combat prevalent false teachings of the day. Much of the creed is an exposition of the Trinity. False teachers had questioned the equality of the three persons of the Godhead, subordinating the Son and the Holy Spirit.
