The Asian golden cat (Catopuma temminckii) is a medium-sized wild cat native to the northeastern Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and China.

These include five colours previously described from different parts of the cat’s distribution across Asia as well as a previously unrecorded dark pattern of tightly spaced rosettes.
This genus has two species, the Bat cat from Borneo, and this: the Asian, or Asian golden cat, both native to South-eastern Asia. They’re both very diverse in their colouration, presenting in a multitude of colour morphs from solid brown to a sort of tabby spotted look.
Asian golden cats live throughout Southeast Asia, ranging from Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, India and Bangladesh to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Southern China, Malaysia and Sumatra. They prefer forest habitats interspersed with rocky areas and are found in dry deciduous, subtropical evergreen and tropical rainforests.
