Baltimore’s R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center partnered with the U.S. Air Force nearly 20 years ago to help create the C-STARS pre-deployment training program.
Shock Trauma is host to the largest C-STARS program in the country, providing real-time training in trauma and critical care for U.S. Air Force physicians, nurses, OR technicians, Special Operations medics and chaplains prior to their deployment to the Middle East.
Each center focuses on three key areas, didactic training, state-of-the-art simulation and expeditionary equipment training, as well as actual clinical experience in the acute management of trauma patients. Each is integral to delivering lifesaving combat casualty care in theater.
