Since 1936, YMCA Youth and Government has offered students across the country the opportunity to serve their schools, communities, states and nation through model government, civic engagement, advocacy, leadership and character development, service-learning, and other opportunities to amplify youth voice and strengthen youth civic health.
Youth & Government gives teens, grades 8-12, the opportunity to be a part of one of the oldest YMCA non-partisan, civic engagement programs in the country. What began in 1947 is now one of the highly rated civic engagement programs in Washington State.
Students who participate in the Youth Legislature or Mock Trial program are eligible to apply for one of our national Youth & Government events and competitions. Students from around the US and beyond come together to learn, teach, lead and grow as individuals.
Through a partnership with the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties, local students from 8-12 grade participate in an eight-month program learning the ins and outs of our government and legislative processes, culminating in a four-day trip to the state capito.
