Between poisonous snakes, deadly, swarming murder Hornets as big as a grown man's little finger, and spiders as big as a man's hand, it might seem pretty scary. Further up the trail a venomous Taiwanese habu (Protobothrops mucrosquamatus) is slithering across the path. Contrary to slug snakes, these can be dangerous. Among these species, Latrodectus (i.e., widow spiders; L. elegans and L. geometricus) and Macrothele (i.e., funnel-web spiders) spp. are potentially dangerous to humans (Chung and Shao, 2021; Shih-Wen Hung, 2004).
