I don't doubt their quality for the price, but those guys make slim suits. The main complaint I have is with their pants, which are unbelievably slim and low-rise. Their jackets' button stance is also fairly high. It's actually a common problem.

In terms of quality, yes, Men's Wearhouse is that bad. They're low-grade wools at best, often blended with some synthetics, always terribly constructed and fused, and poorly cut. For the price, you can absolutely do better. And if you're willing to spend a little more, you can do way better.
