All Gen V engines use aluminum blocks with aluminum cylinder heads, and include direct injection, piston cooling jets, active fuel management, variable displacement oil pump, and continuously variable valve timing. (The L8T is an exception; see below for details.)

The Gen IV LS3/L92 uses rectangle port heads, which flow incredibly well and are used in most high-performance Gen IV models.
