4 lis 2024 · Obtain daily sea ice extent values, ranges, and median values for the Arctic or the Antarctic. Analyze monthly-averaged or daily sea ice extent and concentration via interactive maps. Plot monthly ice extent anomalies, map sea ice concentration anomalies, and more.
Based on U.S. National Ice Center's Arctic daily and weekly analyses, various ice charts are produced to represent ice conditions in a graphical format. Ice conditions are based on ice concentrations, stage of development (ice type / thickness), and 30 day ice concentration changes.
The map of the ice thickness shows the mean thickness of ice in each grid cell. The graph on the right shows the annual variation of the volume of the sea ice in the Northern Hemisphere, excluding the Baltic Sea and the Pacific. The volume of the ice is calculated on the basis of the ice thicknesses from the HYCOM-CICE model.
Visualize sea ice extent (area of ocean with at least 15 percent sea ice concentration) data for the Arctic and Antarctic. View and compare sea ice extent data for any year or any combination of years from 1979 to present (including near-real-time daily data).

The winter 2022/23 freeze-up was typical of recent years with sea ice growth rates near average while the areal coverage remained in the lowest 10% extent (below the lower interdecile range) through the year. Ice growth was particularly slow in the Barents and Kara Seas as well as in the Chukchi Sea, but near normal in other regions.
26 lis 2024 · Shown below are up-to-date satellite observations of the sea ice covers of both the Arctic and the Antarctic, along with comparisons with the historical satellite record of more than 4 decades.
