The Gambian archives, established in the 1960s, have rich and valuable resources for deeper study and teaching of the history of The Gambia and the subregion.
The Gambia, 1883–1919. This volume consists of gazettes published in The Gambia between the years 1883 and 1919. The gazettes include notices of officer appointments and dismissals, as well as legal notices, shipping records, and licence applications.
The book closes with an explanation of the demise of the PPP at the hands of an army coup in 1994. The book not only establishes those distinctive aspects of Gambian political history, but also relates these to the wider regional and African context, during the colonial and independence periods.

16 maj 2018 · My brief was twofold: To set up an appraisal system for the large backlog of Cabinet cabinet-level records, and also to write a guide to the National Archives of The Gambia. In so doing, I was building on work by colleagues at the NRS and also the International Records Management Trust (IRMT) .
