While backyard aquaponics has become more common in recent years as a way to supply vegetables and fish for household consumption, several commercial-scale aquaponics farms have started operations in Hawaii. Yet, economic feasibility of commercial scale operation is unclear.
We study the financial situations of three commercial aquaponic farms in Hawaii. The aquaponics farms that are currently in-operation are relatively small. Yet, they provide the insights needed to evaluate the economic feasibility of the aquaponics industry in Hawaii.
