The instructions for putting an iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone X into recovery mode as detailed here are different from prior iPhone models.
Lion uses the ⌘ + R to boot into recovery mode. Resetting the PRAM in anything less than 10.7 was ⌘ + ⌥ + P + R . Recovery mode now seems to override the PRAM command.
23 mar 2019 · I'm not sure where you're getting -p -r as boot args to reset NVRAM, but sudo nvram -c should do the trick on High Sierra, as Tetsujin states here. When you're done, reboot into recovery mode once more, open Terminal and then re-enable SIP with csrutil enable , and reboot into High Sierra.

Like the iPhone X, Apple's latest batch of flagships now rely on the Side button for a whole slew of tasks, though it can't be used to clear the RAM like the familiar Home button can on past iPhones. Because of this, we'll need to enable the virtual Home button found within AssistiveTouch to perform this task.
