The stainless-steel device was about the size of a deck of cards, and contained a 5GB hard drive and a 10-hour lithium polymer battery.
The original iPod, retroactively referred to as the 1st-generation iPod, iPod (Scroll Wheel), or iPod 1G, was announced on October 23, 2001 and began shipping on November 10. It was still available on the market until April 2003. The iPod 1G existed in 5 and 10 GB variants.
