Alternative tests include point-of-care antigen tests, which are less sensitive than RT-PCR but better predict contagiousness, indicated by correlation with viral culture and higher viral loads. 4,6 Using viral culture as criterion standard, small studies of antigen tests have reported sensitivity of approximately 90% and specificity greater ...

- SARS-CoV-2 Laboratory-Developed Tests
15 kwi 2021 · Molecular and antigen tests can detect current SARS-CoV-2 infection and are used to diagnose COVID-19. Clinicians should consider a test's characteristics, test timing in relation to symptom...
12 maj 2020 · Interpreting the result of a test for covid-19 depends on two things: the accuracy of the test, and the pre-test probability or estimated risk of disease before testing. A positive RT-PCR test for covid-19 test has more weight than a negative test because of the test’s high specificity but moderate sensitivity.
22 cze 2021 · This practice pointer considers how to interpret and communicate results from LFD tests based on our current understanding of the tests’ performance. Lateral flow devices can detect the presence of a target substance in a liquid, typically in a single use disposable …
This Viewpoint describes how to interpret 2 types of diagnostic tests commonly in use for SARS-CoV-2 infections—reverse transcriptase–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and IgM and IgG enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)—and how the results may vary over time .
1 lip 2021 · Serological tests are highly specific but heterogeneous in their sensitivity for the diagnosis of COVID-19. For certain indications, including delayed disease presentations, serological tests can have added value. The presence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 may indicate a recent or past COVID-19 infection.
In this cohort study of 225 adults and children with RT-PCR–confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, home antigen test sensitivity for SARS-CoV-2 was moderate compared with RT-PCR and high compared with viral culture. Sensitivity peaked several days after illness onset and improved with repeated testing.
