30 lip 2024 · Inhibiting IL-11 in mice extends lifespan and reduces aging signs, with potential implications for human aging treatments. Researchers from the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Medical Science and Imperial College London have discovered that ‘switching off’ a protein called IL-11 can increase the healthy lifespan of mice by nearly 25% ...
17 lip 2024 · After showing the effects in the genetic knock-out mice, the team used an antibody to IL-11 as a treatment, given to normal mice at the equivalent of mid-life, around 55 in humans. The antibody neutralises the effects of naturally occurring IL-11, which is low in both mice and humans in childhood, but begins to rise in middle-ages.
19 lip 2024 · Mice given the anti-IL-11 drug from 75 weeks of age until death had their median lifespan extended by 22.4% in males and 25% in females. The treated mice lived for an average of 155 weeks, compared with 120 weeks in untreated mice.
