Antibiotic Sensitivity FINAL JM Nov 2019. THE "BEST" ANTIBIOTIC SENSITIVITY CHART EVER (at least the best we could make) Created by. James McCormack, BSc(Pharm), PharmD and Fawziah Lalji, BSc(Pharm), PharmD, FCSHP with assistance from Tim Lau. Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC.
ANTIBIOTIC SENSITIVITY TESTING I. OBJECTIVES • To utilize specific monitoring techniques to evaluate the susceptibility of a microbe to different antibiotics. • To distinguish the range of activity of an antibiotic. • To recognize and define advantages and limitations of two different susceptibility testing procedures. II. INTRODUCTION

Antibiograms reflect aggregate results from many individual microorganism-drug susceptibility tests. They can be compiled at the level of a clinic, hospital, health system, region, or state. Antibiograms are updated periodically (e.g., annually) to reflect the most recent susceptibility test results.
The goal of in vitro antimicrobial susceptibility testing is to assess the activity of an antimicrobial agent on a bacterial or fun-gal strain in order to predict the likelihood of in vivo eficacy of antimicrobial therapy when the antimicrobial is administered to patients.
