I just finished watching American Hangman on Netflix and I am a bit confused with the ending. I thought it was decent, but not particularly thrilling. I guessed every “plot twist” very early on. spoilers ahead. The major point of confusion for me is why the murderer handed the judge the gun?

I'm confused about how American Hangman ended, in particular what happens between police finding his real location, and the credits. I don't understand the tradeoff of the revolver to Straight, or why the team got really concerned and nervous when they found out Straight had the revolver. Can anyone shine some light for me?
It was a little predictable but i thats not a huge deal. The ending had me on the edge of my seat as the people were voting and the police were close to the location. Since its an indie movie there arnt alot of reviews on youtube, i would love to know yours.
