It also have a distinctly vintage vibe to it – works wonderfully here for 1930s! The pattern is based on this original 1910s cape.

It's from the book "Keystone System for Ladies Garments", you can get a free pdf version from the US's Library of Congress. It's not at all straight forward in the book, it kind of tells you to make a sack back jacket and make a cape-y overlay instead of sleeves.
