Activating rewards right before purchases makes sense - you “only” have 9 months (I think?) to use them, while if you keep them as points, you theoretically can save them as long as you needed. Handy in the pandemic days. Maybe your local AMC shuts down, and you can now save your points if you travel and want to see a movie.
Safest would probably be to book a couple of Tuesday tickets (without using A List) in the AMC app to use up your rewards, then after you use the free popcorn tonight, you can cancel your tickets and get your Stubs rewards cash back.
