The Mountain Aloe is a wide-ranging species from KwaZulu-Natal into Mocambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana and there is considerable variability in flower color and shape of the inflorescence.
Mountain Aloe forms a tall trunk topped with a massive solitary rosette. It is a statement plant in the waterwise landscape, adding height at the back of the border and sending up a multibranched flower stalk in late fall. Its gray green leaves are heavily studded with thick sharp spines.
