He's at sea, and something has broken the hull of his ship, and water is pouring in. When he goes up on top, we see that he is alone. Truly, utterly, nakedly alone. All he has to work with is what he has available to him, and his own will to survive. Over the course of the movie, Redford keeps falling into deeper and deeper "bad luck."
23 maj 2013 · “All Is Lost” fascinates as a procedural. With a large hole in the side of his boat, Redford does what he can to prevent it from sinking, contending with a fritzy radio, stormy weather, dwindling rations, and the knowledge that he’ll eventually have to consign himself to a life raft.
Sailing the seas. Cinematically speaking, there are few places more moving, more honestly heartbreaking than on the big screen with a lone character struggling to survive. To be lost, stranded in a desolate place is to provide a narrative hook that is immediately intimate and resoundingly relatable.
The inflatable liferaft does not seem to have the usual survival equipment and the sailor does not have a survival kit ready on board for emergency situations. But despite the flaws, "All Is Lost" is not a bad movie.
