Alendronate*, risedronate*, zoledronic acid, denosumab and teriparatide† are licensed for the treatment of osteoporosis in men. Alendronate and risedronate should be the first line treatments in the majority of cases. *Only alendronate 10mg daily tablet and risedronate 35mg weekly tablet are licensed for use in men.

Recommendations. Review whether the bisphosphonate can be stopped, either completely or for a treatment break, at the following intervals: . Three years for patients with multimorbidity (two or more long-term conditions) . Five years for alendronic acid, risedronate sodium, and ibandronic acid for all patients.
