I am getting ready for Google Photos shutting down and want to automatically backup my photos to my server. I would like the pictures to be automatically sorted into folders by the date they were taken.

I've got Windows 10 and when I try to organise my photos I go to the Navigation pane or right click in the folder and then click sort or group by - and it only gives me options to sort by date. I can click on 'more' for further options and the closest I can get is 'date taken'.

Focus on gathering known information from your grandmother first as photos will still be around at her passing, usable identifying memories won’t. Make notes as to where particular photos were stored. This might help later in dating and sometimes difficult identification efforts.
