17 maj 2022 · English: The Alawite State (1922–1936) was a French mandate state on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea replacing the Alawite Territory (1920–1922) until it was incorporated into the mandatory Syrian Republic.

When the French began to occupy Syria in 1920, [80] an Alawite State was created in the coastal and mountain country comprising most Alawite villages. The division also intended to protect the Alawite people from more powerful majorities, such as the Sunnis.

They reside in the coastal side of Syria, but they are also located in Homs and Hama governorates, as well as in the city of Damascus. The Alawite community has close connection with the Assad regime [ Targeting 2020 , 10.6, p. 82].
