Animation Department: Lady and the Tramp. Al Dempster was born on 23 July 1911 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA. He was an art director, known for Lady and the Tramp (1955), Mary Poppins (1964) and Dumbo (1941).
Al’s illustrations for Santa’s Toy Shop, Walt Disney’s Mother Goose, and Walt Disney’s Uncle Remus Stories are especially fondly remembered, as are his pictures for the Golden Book editions of Three Little Pigs, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Alice in Wonderland.
Dempster, Al (1911-2001) Disney background artist, beginning in 1939 and creating backgrounds for most features between Fantasia and The Rescuers. He was also noted for illustrations of more than a dozen Disney Golden Books. He was named a Disney Legend in 2006.

Al Dempster (1911–2001) was a legend in the Disney animation department. He worked on classic films such as Mary Poppins, The AristoCats, and The Jungle Book. His animation was later adapted and published in several Disney Little Golden Books, including Cinderella’s Friends and Santa’s Toy Shop.
