If pediatric pads aren’t available—or the AED doesn’t have a pediatric setting—it’s safe to use adult AED pads or adult levels of energy. Use an anterior/lateral placement, according to the manufacturer instructions: Place one pad to the right of the sternum and below the right clavicle.
16 wrz 2024 · The pads are smaller and deliver a lower-energy shock that a child’s body can accommodate. However, placing the pads on infants is different from placing them on others. This article discusses the use of AEDs in children and infants, including proper usage and correct AED pad placement for infants.
17 paź 2024 · What is the correct AED pad placement for infants? For infants, place one AED pad on the upper left chest and the other on their back. This placement ensures the pads don’t overlap.
10 paź 2024 · If there is an infant who is under 1 year old, place one pad on the infant’s upper left chest. You must place the second pad on the back of the infant. Make sure that if the pads do not touch the front of the chest, then you must use the anterior-posterior placement.
When using an AED, child pads should be placed at the center of the infant’s chest and they must fully touch the skin; beginning CPR or applying chest compressions before the pads touch is not recommended.
Attach one AED pad to the infant's chest, carefully roll the infant on his or her side, and attach the second pad to the back. The pads should have a diagram on placement if you need a reminder. Plug the cable into the AED and be sure no one is touching the patient, including yourself.
When available, use pediatric settings or pads when caring for children and infants. If pediatric equipment is not available, rescuers may use AEDs configured for adults.
