My core résumé template is about 1.75 pages; I tweak it for relevance to each application, so in practice it’s generally about 1.25-1.5 pages. I leave out short-term stints except where relevant (e.g., my first SRE-ish role was a 6-month contract, which is relevant, but the 4-month junior dev contract gig from 2016 isn’t).
It's meant to mean that in pretty much every single case I've seen in this subreddit, a 2 page resume should be a 1 page resume, and a 1 page resume should not be turned into a 2 page resume. Meaning that OP's advice is bad for everyone except the .1% (hyperbole again btw) who actually need 2 pages.
About half of the resumes I've reviewed are 1 or 2 pages in length. The other half have over four pages of resume. One guy had a 8 page resume listing every tiny detail of every job over the past ten years.

The answer most recruiters would give you is: your resume should be as long as it takes to articulate your experience and background very well. In other words, you could fill 3 pages with 'fluff', and it would be crap. You could also try to shoehorn 20 years of experience onto one page, and it would also be crap.
