Masjid Kristal is the country’s first ‘intelligent’ mosque with a built-in IT nfrastructure and WiFi connection, providing visitors with internet access with which to read the electronic Quran (Islamic Tourism Centre, 2013).
The Crystal Mosque is the icon of Taman Tamadun Islam and Kuala Terengganu City-the Waterfront Heritage City. It is considered unique as it is the first and only mosque builds entirely from steel and glass hence the crystal-like image.
The most impressive structure in Kuala Terengganu sits along the Terengganu River. Costing around USD 80 million to build, the Crystal Mosque (Masjid Kristal) was constructed from 2006 to 2008 out of steel, glass and crystal on a man-made island called Pulau Wan Man. It can accommodate 1,500 worshippers at a time.
