Abdominopelvic Regions and Quadrants: To promote clear communication, for instance, about the location of a patient’s abdominal pain or a suspicious mass, health care providers typically divide up the abdominopelvic cavity into either nine regions or four quadrants (Figure 1.7). Each anatomical region is labeled with two terms: The first term used is the anatomical adjective used to describe the region, and the second term (in parentheses) is the common term.
