2 kwi 2024 · A nearly-1:1 scale model of the A-10 Warthog's legendary 30mm GAU-8 Avenger anti-tank cannon with accurate barrel rifling that freely spins using bearings for rotation. As a bonus, a cam in the base causes pistons to ride up and down in each barrel, spinning along the rifling as they do so.
The USAF specified a minimum 21,000-round life for each set of barrels. The GAU-8/A also has an improved and more compact bolt design that reduces the overall length and weight of the gun. The GAU8/A is relatively compact, being only fractionally larger in diameter than the much less powerful M61.
