Positraction rearends will usually have a tag on the right lower cover bolt with a two- or three-digit axle code and/or production date. Rearends with open differentials usually have a tag located on the left lower cover-mounting bolt.

10 mar 2010 · the easiest way to tell is to LOOK at it. Go to the back of your car and look under it at the rear end. The 8.5 will have a little square like ear on each side of the housing at the bottom. And the 8.2 WONT. If you search the threads on here about it someone posted some pics of the 2 and you can see the little ears on each side of the rear end ...
