The collection of endocrine glands makes up the endocrine system. The main endocrine glands are the pituitary (anterior and posterior lobes), thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal (cortex and medulla), pancreas and gonads. The pituitary gland is attached to the hypothalamus of the lower forebrain.
The major endocrine glands are: Adrenal Glands – produce androgens and cortisol; gives your body odor and pubic hair, helps in how we respond to stress; regulates blood pressure and more. Hypothalamus – produces hormones that regulate body temperature, appetite and weight, mood, sex drive, sleep, and thirst.

The main endocrine glands are the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroids, pancreas, adrenals and gonads: testes and ovaries ( Fig. 5.1 ). These glands synthesize hormones which are released into the circulation and act at distant sites.
