The 6.5×52mm Carcano, also known as the 6.5×52mm Parravicini–Carcano or 6.5×52mm Mannlicher–Carcano, is an Italian military 6.5 mm (.268 cal, actually 0.2675 inches) rimless bottle-necked rifle cartridge, developed from 1889 to 1891 and used in the Carcano 1891 rifle and many of its successors.
Carcano rifles are built with a .257" bore and .268" grooves. This was done to extend barrel life. The rifles are, by virtue of this, not generally accurate with conventional .264" 6.5 mm bullets. Hornady now produces a .267" 160 grain Round Nose bullet designed specifically for Carcano rifles.

1 sty 2024 · With an overall length about 0.13″ longer than 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5 PRC will fit handily in most short actions, while providing supersonic velocity at up to 1,650 yards. To be blunt, that is insane for any short action cartridge. For comparison, .50 BMG remains supersonic at about 1,500 yards.
