13 mar 2008 · The 4.7 only drops a gallon or so (which I found surprising since it's on the lower radiator hose), so there isn't all that much to replace. The seal is reusable, it's on the thermo itself. It's a pretty easy job, just don't forget to bleed air out of the system from the bleed port at the top of the engine (where a t-stat normally is).
20 gru 2015 · Remove the two bolts from thermostat housing (lower passenger side of engine). This will drain most of the remaining coolant. Also, remove thermostat (note orientation for later use), but replace the gasket and reinstall the housing.

It means that the coolant will be circulated through the engine and radiator at at lower temp, meaning the engine should stay at or around 180 degrees.
