Its a Star Trek 3D chess set. It looks cool but the rule set isn't compatible with normal chess. I read somewhere that the 3D chess set was hand made by the props department. If you look closely I believe you will notice there are too many pieces for the boards.

11 mar 2013 · Has anyone watched the Big Bang Theory episode {"The Wildebeest Implementation"] where Sheldon has come up with a version of three-person chess? I have to watch it again to get all the details of how the middle section of the board works/ intersects with the players.
