The 361st Fighter Group was the last P-47 Thunderbolt Group to join the Eighth Air Force. Between 21 January 1944 and 20 April 1945, the Group flew 441 missions, the majority in an escort role in support of bombers flying over occupied Europe.

15 maj 2024 · In the famous color image of the "bottishan 4" being lead by "Loui IV" for instance, some have yellow gun panels, and I've seen others depicted with red gun panels. Does anyone have any insight on what they were colored? Or even why they seemingly randomly colored these panels only on the wings? Did any other FG do this and why?

Constituted as 361st Fighter Group on 28 Jan 1943. Activated on 10 Feb 1943. Joined Eighth AF in England in Nov 1943. Entered combat with P-47 aircraft on 21 Jan 1944 and converted to the P-51 Mustang in May 1944.
